More than 70 writers and editors from across the U.S. will serve as faculty for the Conestoga Writers’ Conference — the “conference within the convention.” The two day workshop will explore a wide variety of topics of interest to both new and established authors in all genres - not just science fiction and fantasy.
Between them. the conference faculty have published hundreds of novels and short stories, many of which won awards and spent time on best seller lists. The authors and editors teaching at the conference include David Drake, author of more than 50 novels and 100 short stories; K.D. Wentworth, three time Nebula award nominee, as well as the Coordinating Judge of the Writers of the Future Contest; Selina Rosen, writer and Editor in Chief of Yard Dog Press; 2005 Hugo Nominee Bradley Denton; and Stephen Pagel of Meisha Merlin Publishing.
Before founding Meisha Merlin, Pagel spent 10 years working for Barnes and Noble, the last three of which he served as the chain’s national science fiction, fantasy and role playing buyer. During Pagel’s stint as a buyer, Barnes and Noble experienced double digit increases in sales of SFF, leading Locus, the newspaper of the science fiction field, to label Pagel the “most powerful person in science fiction.” Pagel’s experiences provided him a unique background to explain how national chains work and the practical realities of the book market.
