Program 09 - Snakes on a Podcast, Part 2

This is it! Ninth in a series of podcasts about Conestoga and the upcoming convention. Click here to listen to Program No. 09. (click on title above to view post as a page then you can click on link)

Part 2 (45:55) all about snakes

Part 1 (18:02)

Show notes - (show length 45:55) Chris Merle continues his conversation with Paul Batteiger and Amanda Gannon. And now it’s time to talk about snakes. This podcast is for fun and has very little to do with the convention. This is our longest podcast so far. None of the others will be quite so long. At least not until after the convention.

Download the slideshow (pdf). It has pics of just a few of Paul and Amanda’s lovely snakes with their names and species. This is the proof we actually had snakes on a podcast.
First we talk about Paul & Amanda’s snakes and learn all sorts of interesting things about them. I warned them they would forever be known as the snake people. They said they already were.

Paul’s pet peeve: Snakes are venomous NOT poisonous.

More people die from dog attacks than snake bites. Alcohol figures in about 90% of venomous snake bites statistics. For example: the hosts and regular guests on the podcast Wingin It (NSFW) show are more likely to die from a venomous snake bite.

The number of people who have snakes as pets is on the upswing.

Snakes in the Cinema

movies mentioned with snakes

The Jungle Book’s Kaa was played by Sterling Holloway. Paul was deprived and didn’t see it.
CGI basilisk in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Raiders of the Lost Ark (actually most were legless lizards or rubber snakes)

7th Voyage of Sinbad, Clash of the Titans, Excalibur, and Anaconda

Medusa has a rattle in Clash of the Titans. There were no rattlers in ancient Greece

Predator filmed around Puerto Vallarta had a Python not native in a shot but they could have used a native boa constrictor.
SSSSSSS starred Dirk Benedict and Strother Martin not Sterling Holloway as I mentioned in the podcast. Sterling was the voice of Kaa in the Jungle Book. And SSSSSSS is available in DVD.

Venom

A Boy and his Wolverine WTF?

Kill Bill, Vol 1 & 2. Black Mamba, California Mountain King Snake is like being named Gerbil. It’s a pretty wimpy snake.

Snakes on a Plane

Toddlers on a Plane or Rats on a Plane would be more dangerous than Snakes on a Plane. And why don’t the just turn the temperature down. It’s minus 50 outside. They could cool the plane enough to make it cold. But the assassin had probably thought of it and provided little parkas for the snakes.

Below our parting shot. Be sure to listen to Part 1 (though it’s really not about snakes it’s about Conestoga and what a cool con it is)

soap

And now for something completely different Bears on a Sub.

Thanks!

Those two are both pine snakes, one black pine snake, and one leucistic southern pine. There’s more pictures of some other snakes, and more info in the slideshow, if you can download a .pdf file.

I stumbled upon your site while researching “rattlesnake round-ups” here in Oklahoma, and after seeing the site, it’s clear that you care about snakes, and seem to know a bit about them. I was hoping you would like to help me out. I want to bring an end to the inhumane round-ups. If you’re interested, send me an e-mail. Thanks.
